An unexpected surprise

While putting the washing out, my other half found a very hairy unusual looking moth caterpiller, which it turns out is a Vapourer Moth:

  1. Have a go at rearing it through, Ashley. They`re easy to do. That way you`ve a chance of it turning out to be the strange looking female.

  2. I didn't even think about that! Unfortunately it has now gone :( oh well maybe next time.

  3. Thats exactly what I did, found it on my apple tree, reared it through, never had seen either female or male, luckily it hatched as a female, and then a quick walk along the river yielded a couple of males that were attracted to her.
    Beautiful caterpillar images.

  4. Nice photos and a colourful blog, will be watching to see what happens in MK and how it compares to what I get in my leafy suburban bit of Luton, Andy Grimsey, wychwoodmoths.blogspot.com
