Finally a moth!

After a few blanks with the new trap finally last night produced a moth. Just the one but still I'm pretty excited hopefully this will be the first of many more.

Over night the weather was clear and cold (there was even a light frost) but that didn't stop me catching my first moth with the new trap, and the first moth at my new address.

1. The Chestnut (NFM)

Not only that but, as predicted it being winter, it was also a new moth for me.

I'm pretty sure it is just a normal rather than a dark chestnut as the end of the wings appear quite flat rather than having the slight S bend in them, although it did appear quite dark at first.

  2. Another tip for id'ing dark chestnut is that it usually shows 4 small white spots on the trailing edge of the wing. Soon we shall be into good moths, still awaiting my 1st oak beauty of the year. only just taken 1st hebrew character this year, so all a little late. However, nothing can be as bad as 2012 for moths! Good luck with the new trap.

  3. Had my first Hebrew of the year last night, still only seem to be lone moths at the moment (probably my not checking the trap enough through the night, that or the frosts, cold, wind and rain).
