The mothing continues

I trapped again last night the first time I have trapped in October and I was delighted to find some moths in the trap, not many but I must admit I wasn't sure there would be any. It seems now though that it is the time of carpets (Common Marble Carpet to be precise) so I may swap over to my actinic type bulb, I'd be interested to know what others do?

I'm not going to give a huge list as normal as there weren't enough moths but here they are:
  • The Sallow (1)
  • Common Marble Carpet (6)
  • Light Brown Apple Moth (3)
  • Large Yellow Underwing (2)
  • Lunar Underwing (1)
  • GREEN-BRINDLED CRESCENT (1) - NFM
So not much but again another new one, and a real stunner with it's flecks of iridescence green.

I will continue trapping but it won't be as often as in the summer, so please keep coming back and checking etc.

I hope you have enjoyed this post and the associated photos, please feel free to leave me a comment, I really appreciate the interaction and will reply as soon as I can.

  1. Hi Ashley,
Early October can be the best time of the year with all the migrant activity going on. Not sure which part of the country you're in but migrants are being caught well inland at the moment. Have a look at the Atropos 'flight arrivals' page.

  2. Cheers Richard, I'm in North Bucks (Milton Keynes) so quite away from the coast, I'm still hoping for an exciting migrant but with the cold weather due to hit us this week I'm not convinced it will happen. I do have a week in Margate coming up (although at the end of the month) so hopefully some migrants will still be around then?
