Moth Trapping 19-03-2014 Milton Keynes

Early Grey Moth, Milton Keynes
Early Grey
Another balmy night (although the wind was a little stronger than recently, but by no means back to the fence flattening levels of Feb), and so out went the trap and again there were good numbers 30 in total of 7 species another 2 new ones for the year (Satellite and Early Thorn), and only my second Small Quaker.

Moth Trapping Milton Keynes 12th March 2014

After a cold an misty start to March the 12th the afternoon warmed up (it is always odd seeing people in just T-shirts in March but I guess climate change is pretty obvious these days), although it was still cold out of the sun, but I thought I would try the trap again tonight, I don't know why but I keep expecting the excitement of summer when it's been warm, I have to remind myself it is still winter really, and spring is only just starting.

Moth trapping Milton Keynes 9th March 2014

Well I really wasn't expecting last night. I checked my records and this time last year I had single moths on nights I trapped it wasn't until mid April that I hit double figures and multiple species, so I was already well ahead with the trapping from a few nights ago, but after a really warm weekend (stuck at work for me so no going out or trapping) I thought I'd give it a go and low and behold what a night! 29 Moths of 7 species including 3 New ones for me!!

First Moth Trappings of 2014

I finally broke out the trap last night, the wind has eased and the rain has stopped (at least for the moment) and last night was due to be cloudy, so I thought it would be a good night to start trapping again, and it wasn't bad! I had the Actinic bulb on rather than the MVB (I always worry it will crack at this time of year, probably very wrong) and there were a total of 8 moths (not bad for me at this time of year).
